LIFESTYLE, WEDDING + FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHER
My name is Anka and I've been creating in various art forms for as long as I can remember. I blame my hippie parents (who met back in the 70s in art school), particularly my mother who introduced me to finger painting and the magical Stevie Nicks.
My formal career in photography started back in 2005 when I attended a 2 year photography program. After graduation I then enrolled at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City where I majored in photography and minored in fine arts (particularly printmaking) for 4 years. I graduated in 2011 with my BFA degree.
That's about the time I met legendary photographer Deborah Turbeville...she changed my life. In a matter of a few short years, we became very close. I worked as her head photo assistant and retoucher and fine art printer. We traveled the world together as I helped her shoot for various magazines such as Vogue Italia, L'Uomo Vogue, GQ and Harper's Bazaar...it was exhausting and amazing all at the same time. When Deborah passed in 2013, I became the Head Archivist of her art estate.
Currently I am mom to my very energetic 2 year old son Kieran and fellow musician and bandmate to my husband Patrick in our band The Long Losts. In my art I utilize all my various backgrounds and create fine art lifestyle and portraiture. I try not to limit myself, and whatever inspiration comes to me I run with it!
"Anka came all the way to Iceland to photograph our wedding. It was small and intimate, and I knew there was no in better for the job than her! We didn’t want any posed photos, just candids caught in the action of us and our ten friends. I knew she would capture once-in-a-lifetime moments with stunning photographs, and she not only met but exceeded my biggest hopes. Photography comes naturally to Anka, and she clearly has honed her natural ability with fine art study and experience, to be able to bring her clients/subjects a wide range of offerings for a final product that I have no doubt every person she shoots will be in love with. As much as I’d love to keep her to myself as my personal photographer I’m so glad she has a greater online presence now, so that others can have the opportunity to discover her, and have her capture the most important moments in their lives!"
